Hi all--new to the forum--I have a special needs lawn tractor. Let me start off by saying I have no working knowledge of how engines operate. I can take things apart and put them back the same way-even rebuild following videos--but not really understand what I've done or how it works..So-with that in mind, if you respond to this post-please assume I dont know even the most basic things about engines and keep your direction very simple and straightforward. Some facts about this mower. Last year I discovered gas in the oil. Replaced the fuel pump as suggested. Also placed shut off in fuel line. changed oil numerous times. replaced the head gasket that had failed I assume due to engine overheating--gas in oil. So now a year has passed and I still think its problem is simple somehow. will fire with starter fluid for a second. questions---if this is a fuel system issue--can the carb be ruled out since it fires, or can the jets still be clogged?? I have removed the carb several times and cleaned it the best way I know how--blown out with air-soaked in solvent-not completely disassembled though. gas lines are very stiff--old-original. How often do lines get clogged? Should they be replaced .Would it be recommended to pull off gas tank and clean out? new gas filter placed too. Also, is it possible to mount a fuel pump incorrectly? Only thought it went on one way. If the engine fires, fair to assume the plug isn't fouled? Also, I noticed cracks in the hose from the carb to the engine head. what exactly does that do anyhow? any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. remember keep it ultra-simplified. I only use this to pull a cart around the yard, but it does come in handy--when it runs..
